La hernia hiatal es vista en Tomografía Computarizada (TC) de manera incidental al ser practicado por alguna otra indicación. Aparece como una masa retrocardiaca con o sin nivel hidroaéreo, cuyo origen puede ser localizado por medio de cortes seriados en el hiato esofágico.

ct. Evidence of a large hiatal hernia with a hernial defect (widened esophageal hiatus) of about 5 cm, through which most of the stomach (fundus and body) is seen herniating into the chest cavity with displaced gastro-esophageal junction upwards, together with some herniating perigastric fat.

Age: 70 years. Gender: Female. PA chest X-ray. x-ray. The mediastinum is enlarged with a retrocardiac lucency indicative of a gas-filled structure. The findings are in keeping with a hiatus (paraesophageal) hernia. Case Discussion. Many patients that are diagnosed in the imaging department are asymptomatic.
