Cloud Atlas is a novel composed of six interlacing narratives, each one housed within the next, so that the first is a book read by a character in the second, the second a series of letters cherished by a character in the third, the third a populist novel being considered by a publisher in the third, and so on.

The purpose of this thesis is to analyse the semiotic characteristics in David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas in terms of Marxist literary theory, mainly within the scope of the theme of oppression and struggle for change.
El atlas de las nubes (título original: Cloud Atlas) es la tercera novela del autor británico David Mitchell. Publicada en 2004, ganó el premio British Book Awards de ficción y el premio Richard & Judy al libro del año.
