August Anheuser "Gussie" Busch Jr. (March 28, 1899 – September 29, 1989) was an American brewing magnate who built the Anheuser-Busch Companies into the largest brewery in the world by 1957; he acted as company chairman from 1946 to 1975.

Gussie Busch. In 1953 Busch convinced the board of directors of the St. Louis-based brewery Anheuser- Busch to purchase the hometown Cardinals and renovate Sportsman’s Park. Busch became president and chief executive officer of the team and rose to become one of the National League ‘s most powerful owners.
