Handsome Dan is a bulldog who serves as the mascot of Yale University's sports teams. In addition to a person wearing a costume , the position is filled by an actual bulldog, the honor and title being transferred to a successor upon death or retirement.
18 de mar. de 2021 · In dogged pursuit of greater joy for the members of its community, Yale University today announced the arrival in New Haven of the puppy who will assume the title and responsibilities of Handsome Dan XIX, the latest bulldog to serve as Yale’s famed live mascot.
3 de jul. de 2019 · In the years since Dan II, 16 more bulldogs have been bestowed the title and role of “Handsome Dan” on the death or retirement of the previous mascot. The university has also used the legacy of Handsome Dan to celebrate important milestones in the campus community.
Handsome Dan XIX, also known as Kingman, serves as the official mascot for Yale University. Born on January 2, 2021, he was picked out of a litter of nine Olde English Bulldogge puppies by Kassandra Haro ’18 on the Yale Visitor Center team.

Andy Graves (left), Class of 1892 in Yale's Sheffield Scientific School and a prominent athlete on campus, was the owner of Handsome Dan (below). But it turns out that Dan was Yale's second bulldog.
