Der Rhein-Neckar-Kreis ist eine Gebietskörperschaft in Baden-Württemberg. Er ist mit 555.352 Einwohnern (31. Dezember 2022) der bevölkerungsreichste Landkreis Baden-Württembergs und der fünfteinwohnerstärkste Deutschlands. Er liegt im Nordwesten des Landes im Regierungsbezirk Karlsruhe und gehört zur Metropolregion Rhein-Neckar.
It has a strong local identity as a successor of the historical Electorate of the Palatinate state. The region is named after the rivers Rhine and Neckar, which join at Mannheim. Since 2005, the region is officially recognized as a European Metropolitan Area .
