Alexander Ramsey (September 8, 1815 – April 22, 1903) was an American politician. He served as a Whig and Republican over a variety of offices between the 1840s and the 1880s. He was the first Minnesota Territorial Governor.
In 1849, Alexander Ramsey is appointed the first territorial governor of Minnesota. His influence in the territory, and later the state, leads to urban growth, immigration, and (sometimes controversial) treaties with the Dakota and Ojibwe.
En 1855, se convirtió en el alcalde de Saint Paul (Minnesota) y en 1859 fue elegido como el segundo gobernador del estado de Minnesota, ocupando el cargo desde el 2 de enero de 1860 hasta el 10 de julio de 1863.
