She was the mother of the most important of his illegitimate children, James Stewart, 1st Earl of Moray, who was Regent during the minority of James VI. In 1527, Margaret married Sir Robert Douglas of Lochleven, who was killed at the Battle of Pinkie Cleugh.

A year after her return to civilization, Margaret Paulee married a Scotchman named Michael Erskine. They had five children – Jane, Henry, William, Alexander, and Michael. Her husband, Michael Erskine, died in August, 1812, and Mrs. Erskine died in May, 1842, at the home of her son, Henry, in Lewisburg.
