The Old English Latin alphabet generally consisted of about 24 letters, and was used for writing Old English from the 8th to the 12th centuries. Of these letters, most were directly adopted from the Latin alphabet, two were modified Latin letters (Æ, Ð), and two developed from the runic alphabet (Ƿ, Þ).

1. Long vowels can be marked with macrons. These were not originally used in Old English, but are a more modern invention to distinguish between long and short vowels. 2. The alternate forms of g and w (yogh and wynn/wen) were based on the letters used at the time of writing Old English. Today they can be substituted for g and w in modern writing of Old English. 3.
