St Martin-in-the-Fields is a Church of England parish church at the north-east corner of Trafalgar Square in the City of Westminster, London. Dedicated to Saint Martin of Tours, there has been a church on the site since at least the medieval period. This location, at that time, was farmlands and fields beyond the London wall .

Hace 6 días · While the Strand was inhabited by the highest titled families, it is no matter of wonder that St. Martin's-in-the-Fields should have been a somewhat fashionable parish in the early Georgian era. In 1721 the church was pulled down, and the present edifice was erected in its place.
27 de may. de 2024 · With its elegant blend of English Palladianism and Italian Baroque influences, St Martin-in-the-Fields became a model that would be widely emulated in church architecture around the world, from London to India to the United States.
St Martin-in-the-Fields. This famous church occupies a highly visible site at the northeast corner of Trafalgar Square and across the street from the National Gallery. It is probably the one parish church in London recognized by most tourists. St Martin’s has an active ministry of social welfare.
