Background. Anson was the son of Sambrooke Adams and his wife Janette Anson, who was the daughter of William Anson and the sister of the naval commander Admiral George Anson, 1st Baron Anson, and the dilettante Thomas Anson .
Born George Adams, he was the son of Sambrooke Adams and his wife Janette Anson, sister of the famous naval commander Admiral Lord Anson. In 1773, on the death of his uncle Thomas Anson, a brother of Admiral Lord Anson, he succeeded to the substantial estates accumulated by his uncles, including Shugborough Hall in Staffordshire.

George Sambrook sold land to Obadiah Adams, grandson of Abdias Adams (1605-95) and Ellen Jervis of Cheswardine, now Cheswardine.
George Adams was baptised on 25 July 1731 the eldest son of Sambrooke Adams of Sambrook and his wife, Janette Anson, daughter of William Anson, and sister of Thomas and Adm George Anson, 1st Baron Anson. He was first returned to Parliament in 1761 as member for Saltash.
