Our Vision. The historic parish church of St Mary Magdalene has been a place of worship in the centre of Richmond for over 800 years. Whilst significantly altered over time, the church continues to be of great architectural and historical significance.
The history of the Church of England parish in Richmond goes back at least 800 years. The original St Mary Magdalene was built at the end of the 12th century and for 300 years was the only centre of worship in the town.
Special features: Georgian interior. Burlinson and Gryll stained glass. John Flaxman sculptures. The Church of St Mary Magdalene – Richmond’s historic parish church – occupies a site at the heart of the town used for Christian worship and prayer for some eight hundred years.
About Us. St Mary Magdalene is part of the Richmond Team Ministry, a parish of three Anglican churches in the town of Richmond. We strive to be an open and welcoming community, which values both traditional and fresh expressions of Anglican worship, and encourage one another to explore the reality of God faithfully and honestly.
Christians have worshipped on the site of the present church of St Mary Magdalene for around 800 years – the first chapel having been built in around 1220.
