Hace 2 días · Fairfax County was formed in 1742 from the northern part of Prince William County, and was named after Thomas Fairfax, 6th Lord Fairfax of Cameron, proprietor of the Northern Neck. The Fairfax family name is derived from the Old English phrase for "blond hair", Fæger-feax. The county's initial settlements were along the Potomac River.

Thomas, sixth Lord Fairfax arrives and permanently settles in Virginia to personally manage his 5 million acre Northern Neck Proprietary. Thursday, May 11, 1749.
13 de may. de 2024 · The land came into Fairfax hands when Catherine married Thomas, 5th Lord Fairfax. Their son Thomas 6th inherited his grandmother's portion of the grant. When Thomas 5th died his son was only 12, and Catherine, unhappy with her husband's management and distrustful of her son's ability, controlled the estate for 20 years.
