The Kingdom of Georgia ( Georgian: საქართველოს სამეფო, romanized: sakartvelos samepo ), also known as the Georgian Empire, [9] was a medieval Eurasian monarchy that was founded in c. 1008 AD. It reached its Golden Age of political and economic strength during the reign of King David IV and King Tamar the Great from the 11th to 13th centuries.

His long reign was marked by a substantial revival of medieval Georgia, he regained much of Georgia's lost territory and controlled a realm stretching from the Black Sea to the Caspian Sea at his death .

David defeated the Turks in the Battle of Didgori (1122) and captured Tbilisi. Under his leadership, Georgia became the strongest state in Caucasia.
