Sagarmāthā National Park is a national park in the Himalayas of eastern Nepal that was established in 1976 and encompasses an area of 1,148 km 2 (443 sq mi) in the Solukhumbu District. It ranges in elevation from 2,845 to 8,848 m (9,334 to 29,029 ft) and includes Mount Everest.
Because Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world, it has attracted considerable attention and climbing attempts. Whether the mountain was climbed in ancient times is unknown. It may have been climbed in 1924, although this has never been confirmed, as neither of the men making the attempt returned.
Sagarmatha is een uitzonderlijk gebied met indrukwekkende bergen, gletsjers en diepe valleien, gedomineerd door de Mount Everest, de hoogste bergtop ter wereld (8.848 meter). Het gebied is 124.000 hectare groot en herbergt zeldzame diersoorten, zoals het sneeuwluipaard en de kleine panda.

Sagarmāthā Zone ( Nepali: सगरमाथा अञ्चल, [sʌgʌrmatʰa ʌnt͡sʌl] ⓘ "Sagarmāthā Anchal") was one of the fourteen zones of Nepal until the restructuring of zones into provinces. The headquarters of Sagarmatha is Rajbiraj. Sagarmāthā is a Nepali word which as per some sources, is derived from सगर ( "sagar", sky) and माथा ( "māthā", head).
