Qonqurtai was Hulagu's ninth son and was the senior commander during the reign of his brother Abaqa. He was twice appointed as viceroy of Anatolia, first during the reign of Abaqa and then under Tekuder. His winter quarters were in Kazova plains near Tokat, while his viceroyalty itself has centred around Kayseri .
Tekuder on the other hand began to be suspicious of his half-brother Qonqurtai and Arghun's potential alliance. Qonqurtai was accused of conspiracy and was arrested by Tekuder's son-in-law, Alinaq Noyan - the viceroy of Georgia - on 17 January 1284, and was executed the next day.
Arghun gained crucial support from Qonqurtai, who had originally supported Tekuder, and from the party that supported the late Mengu-Timur and his mother Öljei Khatun. Tekuder replaced Qonqurtai with Alinaq and ordered the arrest of both Qonqurtai and Arghun.

Ahmed Tekuder ( mongol : Tegülder , que significa "perfecto"; persa : تکودر ) (c.1246 - 10 de agosto de 1284), también conocido como Sultán Ahmad (que reinó de 1282 a 1284 ), fue el sultán de Ilkhanate de origen persa , hijo de Hulegu y hermano de Abaqa . Qonqurtai (Persian: قونقورتاى) was a Mongol prince and viceroy of Anatolia for the Ilkhanate khanate.
He was living in Jazira during Tekuder's reign and had to flee to Arghun in Khorasan after Qonqurtai's execution in 1284. He was given as hostage to Tekuder by Arghun as a condition of truce in June 1284 and put in orda of Todai Khatun, his step-mother.
