Hopetoun has been the ancestral home of the Hope family for over 300 years; the present Earl of Hopetoun lives in the house and The 4th Marquess of Linlithgow (the head of the family and Lord Hopetoun’s father) lives on the Estate. The Hope family has a long and honourable record of service to crown, country, the law and the military.
Hopetoun House is a unique gem of Europe’s architectural heritage and undoubtedly ‘Scotland’s Finest Stately Home’. Situated on the shores of the Firth of Forth, it is one of the most splendid examples of the work of Scottish architects Sir William Bruce and William Adam.
11 de abr. de 2016 · On 28 December 1698 Tobias Bachope signed the masonry contract for one of the most notable buildings in the history of early eighteenth-century architecture in Scotland, Hopetoun House near South Queensferry in West Lothian.
Among his best known works are Hopetoun House near Edinburgh, and Duff House in Banff. His individual, exuberant style built on the Palladian style, but with Baroque details inspired by Vanbrugh and Continental architecture.
