Burton Pynsent House is a historic country-house in the parish of Curry Rivel, Somerset, England. It is a Grade II* listed building. The house was built in stages between 1565 and 1765, when it was bequeathed to William Pitt, 1st Earl of Chatham by Sir William Pynsent, 2nd Baronet, who did not want the house to go to Lord North.

Curry Rivel is a village and civil parish in Somerset, England, situated 6 miles (9.7 km) west of Somerton and 10 miles (16.1 km) east of Taunton in the South Somerset district. The parish has a population of 2,148. [1] The parish includes the hamlet of Burton Pynsent .

Overview. Follow the footpath from Curry Rivel village centre to the 140 feet high Burton Pynsent Monument, standing on Troy Hill at the top of a steep slope and marvel in the fantastic views of the Levels and West Sedgemoor.
12 de may. de 2015 · This is the Burton Pynsent monument, erected between 1767 and 1769 by Lancelot "Capability" Brown for William Pitt the Elder, 1st Earl of Chatham. Close up, it is covered with moss and lichen, carved with graffiti, peppered with metal pins to stop it falling down.
Hace 3 días · The Burton-Pynsent Monument is known by a number of other names, including the Curry Rivel Column, the Pynsent Steeple, and the Cider Monument. Thee is a public footpath past the column, though this can be a little tricky to find. A good OS map is a handy resource for getting onto the right path from Curry Rivel village.
