Edward I [a] (17/18 June 1239 – 7 July 1307), also known as Edward Longshanks and the Hammer of the Scots, was King of England from 1272 to 1307. Concurrently, he was Lord of Ireland, and from 1254 to 1306 he ruled Gascony as Duke of Aquitaine in his capacity as a vassal of the French king.

Eduardo I (en inglés moderno, Edward I), también conocido como «el Zanquilargo» [1] o «Piernas Largas» [2] (en inglés, Edward Longshanks; 17/18 de junio de 1239-7 de julio de 1307) fue rey de Inglaterra desde 1272 hasta su muerte. Antes de su acceso al trono, era llamado comúnmente como el lord Eduardo (The Lord Edward).

Aged 35, he was a veteran warrior ('the best lance in all the world', according to contemporaries), a leader with energy and vision, and with a formidable temper. Edward was determined to enforce English kings' claims to primacy in the British Isles. The first part of his reign was dominated by Wales.
