Der Heidekreis ist ein Landkreis im Land Niedersachsen. Er liegt fast vollständig in der Lüneburger Heide, nach der er benannt ist. Kreisstadt ist Bad Fallingbostel, die einwohnerstärksten Städte sind Walsrode und Soltau . Der Landkreis entstand am 1. August 1977 mit der Fusion der aufgelösten Landkreise Fallingbostel und Soltau.
