Biography of William John Cavendish-Bentinck-Scott, 5th Duke of Portland (1800-1879) Originally known as Lord John Bentinck, the 5th Duke was educated at home. Despite suffering from delicate health, he served in the army from 1818, reaching the rank of captain in the Grenadier Guards by 1830.
24 de dic. de 2023 · Lord John Bentinck, the 5th Duke of Portland, resided in the family seat of Welbeck Abbey in north Nottinghamshire. Born in 1800, he inherited the grand estate that had been in the family since 1607, and the title of Duke of Portland, with the death of his father in 1854.
