Stockbridge is a district of Edinburgh, located north of the city centre, bounded by the New Town and by Comely Bank. The name is Scots stock brig from Anglic stocc brycg, meaning a timber bridge. Originally a small outlying village, it was incorporated into the City of Edinburgh in the 19th century.

Stockbridge public library, built in 1898, is one of Edinburgh 's 28 freely accessible libraries, [1] located in the Stockbridge area of the city. The library is currently open six days a week and, in addition to the collection of books, provides "bookbug" sessions for the under-fives, a knitting club and acts as one of the city's business hubs [2]
