Eugène de Beauharnais. Eugène Rose de Beauharnais ( [øʒɛn də boaʁnɛ]; 3 September 1781 – 21 February 1824) was a French nobleman, statesman, and military commander who served during the French Revolutionary Wars and the Napoleonic Wars. Through the second marriage of his mother, Joséphine de Beauharnais, he was the stepson of Napoleon Bonaparte.

She is widely known as Joséphine de Beauharnais (French: [ʒozefin də boaʁnɛ]). Joséphine's marriage to Napoleon was her second. Her first husband, Alexandre de Beauharnais , was guillotined during the Reign of Terror , and she was imprisoned in the Carmes Prison until five days after his execution.
