It can sometimes also refer to the Scandinavian Peninsula (which excludes Denmark but includes a part of northern Finland).
Sønderborg (Danish pronunciation: [ˈsønɐˌpɒˀ]; German: Sonderburg [ˈzɔndɐbʊʁk] ⓘ) is a Danish town in the Region of Southern Denmark. It is the main town and the administrative seat of Sønderborg Municipality (Kommune). The town has a population of 28,137 (1 January 2023), in a municipality of 74,380.
Metropolitan Denmark [N 9] is the southernmost of the Scandinavian countries, lying south-west and south of Sweden, south of Norway, [N 10] and north of Germany, with which it shares a short border, Denmark's only land border.
The Region of Southern Denmark is the westernmost of the Danish administrative regions ( Region Zealand being the southernmost). It consists of the former counties of Funen, Ribe and South Jutland, adding ten municipalities from the former Vejle County.
