Khanbaliq or Dadu of Yuan (Chinese: 元大都 Mongolian: ᠻᠠᠨᠪᠠᠯᠢᠺ) was the winter capital of the Yuan dynasty of China in what is now Beijing, the capital of China today. It was located at the center of modern Beijing.

The city came to be known as Khanbaliq ("City of the Khans") and Daidu to the Turks and Mongols and Dadu (大都, "Great Capital") to the Han Chinese. As early as 1264, Kublai decided to change the era name from Zhongtong ( 中統 ) to Zhiyuan ( 至元 ).

He proclaimed the dynastic name "Great Yuan" [note 5] in 1271, and ruled Yuan China until his death in 1294.
The Borjigin rulers of the Yuan came from the Mongolian steppe, and the Mongols under Kublai Khan established the Yuan dynasty (1271–1368) based in Khanbaliq (modern Beijing). The Yuan was a Chinese dynasty that incorporated many aspects of Mongol and Inner Asian political and military institutions.
