Steilacoom (/ ˈ s t ɪ l ə k əm /) is a town in Pierce County, Washington, United States. The population was 6,727 at the 2020 census. Steilacoom incorporated in 1854 and became the first incorporated town in what is now the state of Washington.

The Steilacoom people ( Lushootseed: č̓tilqʷəbš) are Lushootseed-speaking Southern Coast Salish people, indigenous to the southern Puget Sound region of Washington state. Name. The name Steilacoom is an anglicization of their Lushootseed endonym. In their native Lushootseed language, their name is č̓tilqʷəbš. [1] .
In 1975, the Steilacoom historic district was nominated for the National Register of Historic Places. Steilacoom is an amazing place, modern and yet locked into its roots. 31 de ene. de 2020 · Steilacoom Washington, A Town of Firsts. As the population climbed with nervous settlers, a town took hold on the shores of the Puget Sound. Steilacoom became the first county seat of the newly formed Pierce County in 1852, the same year Steilacoom got Washington Territory’s first post office.
Steilacoom is a small town of 6,400 people (2018) in Puget Sound region of Washington state. It is the oldest incorporated town in Washington. It has 4 individual buildings and sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places, including the oldest Catholic Church in the state and the first Protestant Church north of the Columbia River.
