Las lenguas afroasiáticas son un conjunto de unas 250 lenguas extendidas por el norte y este de África, así como Oriente Medio. El término se debe a Joseph H. Greenberg (1963) que comparó el trabajo lingüístico previo sobre lenguas africanas y reestructuró la clasificación previamente llamada "familia" camítico-semítica.
