Coordinates: 55.5404°N 2.9118°W. Bowhill House. Bowhill House is a historic house near Bowhill at Selkirk in the Scottish Borders area of Scotland. It is a member of the Historic Houses Association, and is one of the homes of the Duke of Buccleuch.
Bowhill House is situated in the beautiful Scottish Borders, just a few miles from Selkirk in the Ettrick Valley. It has been a principle home of the Scotts of Buccleuch for two centuries and is full of truly special items from the world class Buccleuch Collection.
The present house at Bowhill dates mainly from 1812 and was greatly expanded during the 19th century by architects including William Atkinson, William Burn and David Bryce. Sir Walter Scott, a kinsman and frequent visitor, admired the house so much he christened it ‘Sweet Bowhill’ in his famous poem, ‘The Lay of the Last Minstrel’.
