Theodorus Bailey (October 12, 1758 – September 6, 1828) was an American lawyer and politician from Poughkeepsie, New York, who represented New York in both the U.S. House and Senate . Early life. Bailey was born near Fishkill in the Province of New York on October 12, 1758 where he attended the rural schools and studied law.

US Senator. During his life time Theodorus Bailey served in several civic positions. He served as a United States Representative in three different Congresses, he served for a little less than one year as an elected United States Senator, and he served as the New York City Postmaster for 24 years.
Theodorus Bailey was of solid Dutch background. His uncle was Theodorus Bailey, who served as a representative in the United States House of Representatives, and as a senator in the United States Senate. Later his uncle also was commissioned as a Brigadier General in the New York State Militia.
