Gerard Horenbout (c. 1465–c. 1541) was a Flemish miniaturist, a late example of the miniature tradition in Early Netherlandish painting. He is "likely and widely accepted" to be the Master of James IV of Scotland. [1] [2] Biography. Horenbout lived and worked in Ghent and is best known as a manuscript illustrator.

The miniatures are the work of Gerard Horenbout, the greatest Flemish miniaturist of the 16th century, and Sanders Bening and his workshop, who painted most of the portraits in the Suffrages of the Saints. The authorship of these two ateliers suggests that the manuscript was made in the city of Ghent .
Gerard Horenbout (auch Gerard Hornebolte genannt; * 1465 in Gent; † 1541 in London) war ein flämischer Maler. Horenbout trat 1487 der Gilde der Maler von Gent bei. Später gab er selbst Malunterricht, auch seine drei Söhne waren bei ihm in der Lehre.
