A couple of years later, Bill Sr. sold the entirety of the United Western Recorders complex to Allen, at which time Bill Putnam’s United Recording became known as Allen Sides' Ocean Way Studios. It was also during this time Sides began buying almost a thousand rare tube microphones from overseas.
He first purchased United Studios at 6050 Sunset Boulevard, then purchased Western Recorders in 1961. As soon as the doors opened, Western Recorders was producing some of the biggest hits of the pop music era.
