Varful Moldoveanu are altitudinea de 2544m si formeaza, alaturi de Varful Vistea Mare 2527m (al treilea cel mai inalt varf din Romania, dupa Moldoveanu si Negoiu) o creasta in forma de trapez. Din acest motiv acest munte este denumit si Marele Trapez sau Trapezul Vistea-Moldoveanu.
