Government. About LA County. Los Angeles County, one of California’s original 27 counties, was established on Feb. 18, 1850. It is one of the nation’s largest counties with 4,084 square miles, and has the largest population of any county in the nation – nearly 10 million residents who account for approximately 27 percent of California’s population.
The Board of Supervisors is Los Angeles County’s governing body, serving as the executive and legislative head of the largest and most complex county government in the nation. The five elected members of the Board of Supervisors from left to right are Janice Hahn, Hilda L. Solis, Lindsey P. Horvath, Kathryn Barger and Holly J. Mitchell.
The original flag of the City of Los Angeles was designed in 1931. Ordinance 70,000 officially established the City’s own flag, then known as the "Fiesta Flag" on July 22, 1931, designed for the City's 150th birthday (Sesqui-Centennial). The 8' x 12' banner has a taffeta background of notched stripes of red, goldenyellow, and green.
