Ian Kennedy Martin (born 23 May 1936) is a British television scriptwriter who created the action drama series The Sweeney (1975–78). Career. He began his television career in the 1960s, first as a script editor on the military police drama series Redcap (1964) [1] and then later as a writer on series such as The Troubleshooters (1965).

One of the busiest and most successful writers then working in television, he was also crucial in redefining the cop show genre for the 1970s and 80s.
Created by Ian Kennedy Martin, [2] who had previously devised The Sweeney for Thames, along with Juliet Bravo and The Chinese Detective for the BBC, King and Castle started out as an episode of Thames' Storyboard, a series of stand-alone dramas intended as potential pilots for series. [3] .
