Irish, Irish Gaelic or Gaelic is a language spoken in Ireland and (less commonly) in Northern Ireland. Irish is a Gaelic and so it is similar to Scottish Gaelic and Manx Gaelic and less so to Breton, Cornish, and Welsh .
Language family: Indo-European, Celtic, Insular Celtic, Goidelic, Irish. Number of speakers: c. 2 million, including c. 210,000 who speak it regularly. Spoken in: mainly in Ireland and Northern Ireland, and also in the USA, Canada, UK and other countries. First written: 4th century AD.
