Newcastle University (legally the University of Newcastle upon Tyne) is a public research university based in Newcastle upon Tyne, North East England. La Universidad de Northumbria (en inglés: Northumbria University), legalmente Universidad de Northumbria en Newcastle (en inglés: University of Northumbria at Newcastle) es una universidad situada en Newcastle upon Tyne, en el Nordeste de Inglaterra, que obtuvo el estatus de universidad en 1992.

The city has two major universities – Newcastle University and Northumbria University. Newcastle University has its origins in the Durham University School of Medicine and Surgery, established in 1834. It became fully independent on 1 August 1963, forming the University of Newcastle upon Tyne (now simply Newcastle University).
