  1. Thomas Kempshall (c. 1796 – January 14, 1865) was a U.S. Representative from New York. Born in England around 1796, Kempshall attended the common schools. He immigrated to the United States with his father, who settled in Pittsford, New York, in 1806. He moved to Rochester, New York, in 1813, where he was employed as a carpenter.

    He was born in 1791 in Schenectady. He completed preparatory studies and graduated from Union College in 1810. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1812, and in 1813, he moved to Rochester.

    He became the "money king" of the Genesee regionas the secretary of Rochester's first bank, before becoming a supervisor of the city in 1834. In 1837, he became the third mayor of Rochester but resigned after two months to become secretary to the New York State Senate.     Schermerhorn was married to Mary Kent Adams (1798–1865). Together, they were the parents of: 1. Susan M. Schermerhorn (d. 1846) 2. James Adams Schermerhorn (1816–1879), who married Sarah Maria Parker (1819–1874) in 1849. In 1855, he died in Savin Rock, near West Haven, Connecticut. He was interred in Mount Hope Cemetery, Rochester.

  3. Kempshall Mountain is a 3,350-foot-tall (1,020 m) mountain located in Adirondack Mountains of New York. It is located in the northwest of the hamlet of Long Lake in Hamilton County . In 1918, a 35-foot-tall (11 m) Aermotor LS40 tower was built on the mountain for fire lookout purposes.
