Authagraph is an equal-area type world map projection that was invented by Japanese architect Hajime Narukawa in 1999. While conceptually in the category of an equal-area projection, it would require further subdivision to qualify as an actual equal-area map.

One clever Japanese designer, Hajime Narukawa, has spent years studying an innovative solution for a new world map. To resolve the flaws, he has created the AuthaGraph map, a perfectly proportioned rendering of our planet that functions both as a bi-dimensional map and three-dimensional globe.
