  2. 15 de mar. de 2021 · In retrospect/hindsight, I realise this was not the case. In retrospect/hindsight, it occurs to me that…. But you’re trying to apply the expression to “many” (in the third person). Therefore both examples sound a bit unnatural with that phrase at the beginning of the sentence, implying that the speaker’s viewpoint is meant, as is usual.

About the only difference is that "hindsight" is the word that we use in phrases like "with the benefit of hindsight," where we are emphasizing the fact that now we know better than we did then. "In retrospect" is a bit more neutral. In the above example Blair is just repeating himself.

Well, firstly, it is not a sentence, and the whole of the phrase is not redundant but, as you indicate, it should be either "Looking back" or "In retrospect" but not both, then it is.   8. 21 de dic. de 2009 · I´m wondering myself what is meant by "Geschichte aufarbeiten". No serious historian would use such a term because it implies a retrospective history view. The term is about "enlighting" the people about their past. Often in a not very scientific way but with a wagging finger. It´s just used for contemporary history (1918-1989).
