In 2021, Hypercar became the top class in endurance and the FIA World Endurance Championship, which includes the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Two types of car are admitted to the class: Le Mans Hypercar, or LMH, and Le Mans Daytona, or LMDh, admitted as of 2022.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans rule-book comprises two chapters: the technical regulations, which apply to the cars, and the sporting regulations, which lay down the rules of the race. Before the event, drivers, teams and cars undergo thorough scrutineering, known in Le Mans as “Le Pesage”.
At the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the track is shared by three categories: Hypercar, LMP2, and LMGT3. Hypercar: These are prototypes and production-based cars, either hybrid or non-hybrid, with a closed cockpit. They develop up to 680 horsepower and can reach a top speed of 330 km/h.
