GOG sell usually DOS versions for that old games. Even if original release is Win+DOS or Apple Mac + DOS. Warcraft 1 bundled with .cue image file that contain full Mac+DOS.

So if a mod uses a different .EXE to start the game, you should rename the original WAR.EXE to something else then rename the mod's new executable to WAR.EXE. This will preserve all the GOG shortcuts and DOSBox configurations which allow the game to start under Windows.

I am really interested what they will do with warcraft 1. I wish, controls will be reworked just a bit, it is too much archaic for today, but still its great game. Warcraft 2 it is still very good, so I think they will do nothing with it, just compatible mode like with diablo 1. Can not wait. Day 1 purchase.
