16 de sept. de 2021 · Training Day tells you a story from the outside. Usually, you'd get the story from the inside. The actual story of Training Day goes something like this: (Spoilers Ahead) Corrupt narcotics cop Alonzo Harris (Denzel Washington) takes a trip to Vegas. There, he gets in a fight and ends up killing a Russian mobster.
I watched it for the first time and thought it was great. Very similar to the bathtub scene in Scarface for me. Denzel at his very best. It's a great story and probably 100% factual. I love how Denzels character Alonzo gradually becomes more corrupt with each scene.
The scene when they Alonso, his teammates and Jake went to Rogers house is the best scene for me. His plan to protect himself and frame Jake was pretty evil and brilliant. Having seen Sicario a few years ago, and having watched Nolan's 'Insomnia' earlier this year, Training Day is quite similar to those two in many ways.
4 de jun. de 2022 · So I have a theory on Training day. The movie portrays Alonzo as the bad guy, but I don't think he really is a villain. I think he has a good heart and really wants to see change happening. Hear me out on this. Throughout the entire movie we see Alonzo training Jake on the streets. He shows him how the streets really are.
16 de dic. de 2021 · Narc (2002) starring Jason Patrick and Ray Liotta, one of the most underrated police/crime films of all time IMO. Also Pride and Glory (2008) starring Edward Norton and Colin Farrel is a fantastic film and has a similar tone to Training Day. End of watch. But it's a bit over the top at times.
9 de nov. de 2022 · Training Day focuses on Alonzo constantly delaying and rebuffing Hoyt. Alonzo butters him up -- offers him money, praise, career opportunities. But Alonzo doesn't care. Alonzo knew from the very beginning of the movie that Hoyt wasn't going to make it through his training day. Hoyt was disposable.
7 de ago. de 2023 · From his very first scene with Hawke, he's a total prick, and that only worsens as the movie progresses...to murder, theft, abuse. He's a cold-blooded psychopath that just do happens to have a police badge. And poor Jake just wanted to upgrade his law enforcement career. Thankfully he got his happy ending anyway.
it was a training day for holt to see/learn how the system works, How corrupt it is, he will ultimately be Alonso’s replacement. Alonso didn’t plan for holt to replace him, he wanted someone to take the blame for the shooting of a Roger, his plan being that Holt would be killed later that day, autopsy would show he had PCP in his system.
10 de abr. de 2022 · I think one of the most underrated and overlooked themes of Training Day, is the contrasting relationship between Narcs and uniformed officers. Uniformed officers can obviously abuse their power, but Alonzo and his team operate on another stratosphere of criminality and corruption. They possess power and influence that the average cop doesn't have.
The Way of the Gun. Brooklyn's Finest and Harsh Times. Stylistically, Training Day feels a lot like peak Tony Scott. Gorgeous lighting, chunky closeups, intense dialogue, great character actors and lots of testosterone. Maybe try Crimson Tide if you haven't seen it yet.
