Alfred the Great (also spelled Ælfred; c. 849 – 26 October 899) was King of the West Saxons from 871 to 886, and King of the Anglo-Saxons from 886 until his death in 899. He was the youngest son of King Æthelwulf and his first wife Osburh, who both died when Alfred was young.

Hace 3 días · This historic mosque was constructed in the 9th century. The Great Mosque of Samarra was commissioned by the Abbasid caliph Al-Mutawakkil in the year 848 AD. Its construction took nearly six years, and the mosque was completed in 852 AD. The mosque boasts the iconic Malwiya Tower.

Unusually for the time the building in which the witan met in 978 incorporated a hall on an upper floor.
