Edward, the eldest son of George V and Queen Mary. Nine weeks after his father succeeded, people created him Prince of Wales on his sixteenth birthday in 1910. As a young man, he served in the armed forces during World War I and undertook several overseas tours on behalf of his father. George, father of Edward, died in early 1936.
