1 de nov. de 2014 · Major General Abram Petrovich Gannibal continued to honourably serve Russia and the Empress Elizabeth throughout her long, twenty-year reign. Upon her death in 1761, Gannibal retired to his estates in Pskov, where he lived happily with his beloved wife Christina until his death in 1781, at age 85.
Ivan Abramovich Gannibal (Russian: Иван Абрамович Ганнибал; 5 June 1735 – 12 October 1801) was an eminent Russian military leader. He was the son of military commander, general and engineer Abram Petrovich Gannibal , as well as the great-uncle of Russia's most famous poet, Alexander Pushkin .

In 1827 Alexander Pushkin (1799-1837) authored The Moor of Peter the Great, the story of an African slave who rose to prominence under the rule of Tsar Peter the Great. This romanticised work of adventure and court intrigue is based on the real-life experiences of the author's own great-grandfather, Abram Petrovich Gannibal, an African slave living amongst 18th century Russian nobility.
Although the link to Gannibal and his inspiring story was one of Pushkin’s greatest points of personal vanity, it was also a constant, painful reminder of his disconnection from Russian society and the aristocracy into which he was born.
