Se graduó en la Academia de Ballet Vaganova de Leningrado en 1987 y se incorporó al Ballet Kirov (actual Ballet Mariinsky). En 1990 se convirtió en Primera Solista. En 1994 dejó el Mariinsky y se incorporó al Ballet Nacional de Holanda como principal.
