In the Battle of São Mamede in 1128, Afonso Henriques, Count of Portugal, defeated his mother Countess Teresa and her lover Fernão Peres de Trava, establishing himself as sole leader. Afonso continued his father Henry of Burgundy's Reconquista wars.
