Over generations, it was adopted by members of anti-colonial nationalist resistance movements throughout the continent, as French and English colonists installed their own languages and customs.
The Arabic script itself is believed to have resulted from analogous techniques applied to the ancient Aramaic script. It was co-written and co-directed by an Israeli and a Palestinian, and set in Jaffa, technically a part of Tel Aviv, which has high crime and unemployment rates.
