He was raised from Earl to Duke of Fife following marriage to Maud's mother, Princess Louise of Wales, the third child and eldest daughter of the future King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. Maud was christened on 22 June 1893 in the Chapel Royal of St James's Palace.
