31 de mar. de 2024 · Alexander Leslie, 1st earl of Leven was the commander of the Scottish army that from 1644 to 1646 fought on the side of Parliament in the English Civil Wars between Parliament and King Charles I. Leslie joined the Swedish army in 1605 and served brilliantly in the Thirty Years’ War in central.

About this artwork. Leslie had a long and successful career as a soldier: attaining rank of a Dutch captain, a Swedish field marshal and, in Scotland, the title Earl of Leven. From 1605-7 he served under Sir Horace Vere in the Netherlands before transferring to the Swedish army in 1608.
