  7. Alfred Nu Steele was born on April 24th, 1901 in Nashville, Tennessee to Edgar Alfred Steele and Fannie Bartrem Steele. Edgar Steele was born in Albion, Michigan, where his father, Newland M. Steele, served as a minister at the local Methodist Episcopal Church. Edgar studied to be a professor at Albion College where he met his wife, Fannie Bartrem.
